KARST GROUNDS :: Quatro Sunistra will be the fourth iteration of our annual open call exhibition that explores the sinister side of the Sunshine State. The exhibition title is a portmanteau of "sunshine" and the Latin word "sinistra"—the forebearer of the English word “sinister” which retains some of its original connotations of something that is harmful and inauspicious. The play on words reflects the often idyllic/nightmarish dichotomy Florida embodies in its natural, social, and political climates. This serves as a thematic jumping-off point for the exhibition’s applicants as the artists investigate this peculiar state through their diverse perspectives and unique approaches.
Tempus Projects is dedicated to nurturing established and emerging local, national, and international artists through exhibitions, collaborations, residencies, and events. Our non-profit organization promotes artists working in all media, and originates, organizes, and hosts exhibitions that engage the Tampa Bay community through the arts. Our vision is to foster a vibrant and critical arts nexus that connects grassroots efforts to an international arts dialogue through innovative, equitable programming.
Guest Juror :: Anastasia Samoylova is a Russian-American artist who moves between observational photography, studio practice, and installation. By utilizing tools and strategies related to digital media and commercial photography, her work explores notions of environmentalism, consumerism and the picturesque. Samoylova is based in Miami, FL.
